A recent study conducted by Precise found that more large enterprises plan to move many of their front- and back-office applications to cloud computing.
Of those organizations surveyed, 39 percent have already moved email and collaboration systems to a virtual infrastructure, while 33 percent have moved their IT management applications.
By 2012, 33 percent of participants indicated they plan to migrate their finance/ERP/HR applications to the cloud, and 23 percent will move their email and collaboration software. Also, 21 percent said they will place their IT management applications in a cloud environment, according to the study.
In the future, 37 percent of those surveyed revealed they will move 61 percent or more of their IT applications to a private cloud environment, compared to only 6 percent that plan to utilize a public cloud for this purpose, the company stated.
As many companies adopt cloud computing, one expert believes that a virtualized cloud environment offers even more benefits. According to a recent Sys-Con Media report, pairing the two technologies provides organizations with a centralized management system and rapid provisioning advantages.
