According to a recent TMCnet report, EMC has managed to transform its IT department and add more value to the enterprise by virtualizing its IT service delivery structure.
Rather than opt for a traditional form of virtualization, EMC chief information officer Sanjay Mirchandani sought a different solution. According to the report, the company wanted to virtualize part of its human capital by dividing its "business engagement from solution delivery."
Two teams collaborated to help serve EMC's IT needs. One group was a small customer-facing business technology group, while the other was a service delivery group that focused on a range of IT services, the report stated.
"EMC’s IT transformation is producing value in innumerable ways," wrote TMCnet's Brendan Read. "The enterprise now has a virtualized IT service delivery model with core competencies in program management, functional support and testing."
Virtualization figures to play a key role for companies this year and in the future. According to a study by Infonetics Research, companies plan to spend 51 percent more on security to prevent threats for virtualized environments in 2012 than in 2010.
