Small- and medium-sized businesses have discovered they can improve operations and reduce spending by deploying virtual office solutions, such as desktop and infrastructure virutalization, a recent study found.

In a survey of 600 SMB decision-makers conducted by a hosted services provider, 43 percent of respondents reported they save $1,000 or more each month by using virtual office solutions. According to the report, savings are often found by reducing overhead spending.

Additionally, more than 60 percent of survey respondents said they work from a virtual office "almost all the time," while 57 percent reported at least half of their workforce uses a virtual office each month.

"Small- and medium-sized business leaders are on the forefront of embracing virtual offices to boost business efficiency, cut costs and provide more flexibility to their workforces," said one expert involved with the study.

This study supports a previous report by Fresh Business Thinking, which found SMBs can benefit from server virtualization. According to the report, companies are afforded greater flexibility and cost efficiency by virtualizing their servers.
