Companies deploying managed services want more from their providers, including more expertise and more value for their dollar, a recent study found.

According to a survey of 400 IT professionals commissioned by managed services provider Virtela, four out of five respondents indicated their MSPs could do more to ensure their customers are getting the most out of their services. Among the most desired improvements include service expertise, faster response times and proactive service management.

Additionally, respondents ranked cloud services and improved infrastructure management among their top priorities for 2011. To accomplish better infrastructure management, many companies are deploying infrastructure virtualization solutions, which can operate more efficiently than physical solutions.

"These survey results validate that there is room for all managed service providers to better understand the needs of their customers, improve service delivery and ensure timely communication when issues surface," said Virtela CEO B.V. Jagadeesh.

Many experts have noted that virtualization is expected to be one of the most sought-after IT solutions of 2011. According to a recent Fresh Business Thinking report, businesses are turning to server virtualization to optimize their IT practices and reduce operational costs.
