A new report by Akamai Technologies revealed that more than 556 million unique IP addresses from 234 countries and regions connected to the Akamai Internet Platform during the fourth quarter of 2010.
According to the report, this was an increase of 4.2 percent from the third quarter of 2010 and a 20 percent increase from the fourth quarter of 2009.
The world’s 100 fastest cities, in terms of internet connection, include 60 cities in Japan, 16 in South Korea and only eight in the United States.
The company also surveyed 105 mobile providers and revealed that 62 percent experienced an increase in average data consumption delivered by Akamai from the third quarter of 2010.
The United States dropped from the No. 2 spot to No. 5 for global attack traffic, accounting for 7.3 percent during the quarter, while Russia was No. 1, with 10 percent of global attack traffic.
